KATREASE KIRBY - khemistry
Khemistry is a fashion label that specializes in custom special occasion clothing and ready-to-wear collections for the modern woman. Katrease Kirby founded Khemistry in 2014. After realizing that working in the medical field as an insurance verifier was no longer fulfilling, Kirby decided to follow her passion and love for design. With a keen eye for detail and high quality of craftsmanship, she provides original designs with versatility and style.
As a child, Kirby loved designing and spent most of her free time repurposing old clothes by cutting them up and designing them into something new. After graduating high school, she went to Baltimore City Community College, where she learned to sew. This helped further develop her craft and love for design.
Khemistry’s designs have been featured in Baltimore Sun, Munaluchi Bride, United with Love, Ellements Magazine, Baltimore Weddings Magazine, and Voyage Baltimore. Unlike other designers, Kirby doesn’t only create custom designs; she also tailors custom experiences for her clients by offering consultations on how to style their hair, accessorize, and select shoes to create a complete look.
After experiencing bad customer service with a custom designer, Kirby was motivated to learn and provide better experiences for her clients. “My brand is about providing that extra boost of ‘You got it girl’ [because] every woman deserves to feel their best,” she states, and her passion doesn't stop there.
Kirby also loves to give back by teaching and training other aspiring designers. In her free time, you can find her spending time with family, going to happy hour and brunch with her friends, reading, or watching Netflix.
